Welcome to GPSC Basketball Campout 2007!

Eligibility to purchase tickets is determined via the Graduate and Professional Student Council Basketball Ticket Campout. Campout for the 2007-2008 Duke Men's Basketball season will be held starting at 7pm on Friday, September 28, 2007 and run through Sunday, September 30, 2007 at approximately 7am. The rules are simple: make it through the weekend without missing two attendance checks and your name is entered in a lottery. Lottery winners (see lottery details) are then drawn and each of these lucky individuals is eligible to buy one of the 700 graduate and professional season tickets.

But Campout isn’t just about basketball tickets. With almost 2000 students representing nearly every program and department at the University in attendance, this is also the premiere graduate and professional student social event of the year. Campout is an excellent opportunity to bond with your students in your own program and make friends in other programs. Don’t miss it!

Campout will be held at the corner of Wannamaker drive and Duke University Road. There is space at this location for students to set up tents or park trucks and RVs for the weekend. Students commonly form Campout groups to share the planning, lodging, expenses, and the tickets won by group members. Campers will have the opportunity to compete in the yearly basketball shootout, view classic Duke basketball games, and enjoy karaoke and DJs. In addition, the GPSC Basketball Committee will coordinate numerous community service opportunities that campers may take part in on the morning of Saturday, September 29th.

There will also be two town hall meetings for students who have never been to Campout or anyone who has questions. The dates and locations are:

  • Friday September 14, 6 PM - Bryan Center, Von Canon A (map)
  • Thursday September 20, 6:15 PM - Fuqua, Geneen Auditorium (map)

Registration

In order to participate in Campout, you must register between 9am on Monday, September 17th, and 5pm on Friday, September 21st. Please read the 2007 Basketball Ticket Distribution Policy, also located on our website, for all of the campout requirements, rules, and regulations. Additionally, town hall meetings will be held across campus during the beginning of the fall semester to answer any general Campout questions.

Season Ticket Cards

Those students who make it through Campout and are selected by the lottery process will have the opportunity to purchase season ticket cards for $150. Immediately following the announcement of lottery winners, ticket cards will go on sale at the entrance to Wallace Wade facing the Blue Zone. In order to purchase a ticket you will need your Duke ID and another form of ID. Tickets can be purchased with either a check made out to D.U.A.A. or using your Duke FLEX account. There will be representatives from the DukeCard office present to help you set up or add money to your FLEX account. Additionally, thanks to the DukeCard office, three campers who purchase season tickets with FLEX will be randomly selected to have their FLEX account reimbursed the $150 for the season ticket. That means you might get your season ticket for free!! For more information about FLEX or to open a FLEX account go to http://dukecard.duke.edu .

Any student unable to purchase tickets on Sunday morning (usually these students have exemptions from the end of Campout) must designate a proxy to purchase tickets for them. The proxy policy is found in the 2007 Campout policy (.doc and .pdf).

Season ticket cards are transferable to any other graduate or professional student (including spouses with a Spouse ID) for admittance into games. Season ticket cards cannot be sold for more than face value ($7.89 per game). If you do not have a season ticket card, you can still gain admittance to many games through the walk-up line. The GPSC ushers let in as many graduate and professional students (and their spouses) with appropriate IDs as they can until all the space allotted is filled. Oftentimes, many students get into games through this line. If you have any questions about season ticket cards, e-mail bball.cmte@gmail.com .

Community Service

Volunteers will help out local Durham organizations from 9-12 a.m. on Saturday, September 29th. Those who volunteer will be allowed to go home and take a shower.

Click here to see the service projects for 2007 and sign up for community service ! Note: This does not count as registering for Campout!

Exemptions

The deadline for turning in applications for exemptions has now passed. All exemptions applications needed to be received by Friday, September 21, 2007 at 5pm. If you submitted an application for an exemption from Campout, you will hear back from the Exemptions Co-Chairs by Monday, September 24, 2007 at 5pm.

For details on emergency exemptions or general questions, please visit the exemptions page .

Entertainment

Decoration Contest - This year, we are offering prizes to the best decorated tents, trucks, and RV's! Pick a theme, use props and costumes, buy crepe paper and twinkle lights, and give campers a reason to believe that your Campout ddress is the place to be! Winners will be selected for the following categories: Best Duke Spirit, Most Creative, and Most Amusing. Sign up for the contest at the registration tent by noon on Saturday of Campout, and then walk around and enjoy the competition!

Student Vendors

In the past student groups have sold food or other items as a fundraiser during our annual Men’s Basketball Ticket Campout weekend. This year campout will be held from September 28-30. We would really like for students to get involved in campout through fundraising.

The student vendor application must be submitted by September 14, 2007 to campoutfoodandvending@gmail.com . We need the applications as soon as possible in order to be approved by the Basketball Committee. Applications will be approved on a first-come, first-serve basis. Upon receiving your application the committee will notify you of the time and date of the Basketball Committee meeting at which your application will be discussed. We strongly encourage each student group to have a representative at the meeting during which we discuss your application to authorize any necessary changes to the application.

Any food prepared by students (i.e. baked goods) is not allowed to be sold at Campout. However, we can approve applications for pre-prepared food purchased or donated from a store. Additionally, it is unlikely that the committee will approve any vendor application that includes serving alcoholic beverages. The graduate student alcohol policy can be found at http://gpsc.duke.edu/groups/alcohol.

If you have any other questions or concerns regarding student vending at campout, please email the co-chairs at campoutfoodandvending@gmail.com.

Join the Committee!

Want to get involved? Each year, Campout requires a great deal of planning. Any interested graduate or professional student is welcome and encouraged to join the Basketball Committee! The Committee is a large and active group, and a great way for you to get involved in the Duke community. Much of the planning is already underway, so sign up today! Details can be found on on the committee page.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact the 2007-2008 GPSC Basketball Committee Co-Chairs, Laura Simmons Kovacs and Gavin Rogers, at bball.cmte@gmail.com or visit the Campout forum and post a question.
