Sponsor: The Baldwin Scholars, Pi Beta Phi, Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), Student Health and ESTEEM, the Women's Center
Where:
Tuesday, October 28th, 7pm, Griffith Theater
Why:
This film examines the role of physical attractiveness in the United States, including how the fashion industry can play a significant role in the direction of women's lives and society as a whole. Whether the critique occurs at the societal level, with a focus on the modeling and beauty industries or is broadened to include the impact on individuals in everyday life, this film offers a provoking inquiry on how we define beauty and how that informs our lives. Darryl Roberts, the director of this film, will be available for discussion immediately following the film showing. The America the Beautiful showing is being offered by an informal coalition of folks here at Duke, with support from various departments and organizations around campus. We invite you to join the discussion, whether you are an individual or an organization, we'd like your input regarding the questions related to this issue. Sponsored by: The Baldwin Scholars, Pi Beta Phi, Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), Student Health and ESTEEM, the Women's Center, the Office for Fraternity and Sorority Life, Women's Studies, and the Duke Film Society.
