Why: Spook up support for the children of Duke Children's Hospital at Duke Dance Marathon's HALLOWEEN SHOWCASE! On Friday, October 30th at 7pm, come out to Page Auditorium and enjoy performances by DefMo, Rhythm & Blue, Duke Chinese Dance Troupe (DCD), and Sabrosura. Patients and families of Duke Children's Hospital will also be in attendance to share their stories. Everyone is invited to dress in costume, so come dressed with flair or ready to scare. Admission is FREE, but donations for the Duke Children's Hospital will be accepted in cash or flex.

Volunteer with the Troika Music Festival

Why: The Troika music festival is a not-for-profit, volunteer-run music festival celebrating local, independent music. This year's festival features an impressive line-up headlined by the Bowerbirds, the Love Language, and Megafaun. Volunteers are needed to take tickets in flexible three hours shifts during the festival's evening performances. Volunteers are also needed during daytime hours on Saturday, November 7th to facilitate operations at Troika's "Rock, Paper, Scissors" event -- an arts, crafts, and music marketplace. Durham Foodbank Volunteer Day

Come help the Durham Foodbank organize their warehouse. Potential projects include bagging produce or pasta, sorting and labeling cans, sorting food drive items or sorting non-food items. Please be sure to wear weather-appropriate clothing, including gloves if necessary, as the warehouse will not be heated. Carpooling will be arranged as needed. And T-shirts will be provided! Why: Walltown Neighborhood Ministries Food Distribution
The WNM board coordinates a regular food distribution at the end of every month for elderly and disabled families in Walltown, to help them get through these hard economic times.
WNM needs volunteers to help:
• Pick up food from the Food Bank, third Wednesday of every month, 11am-1pm, meet at St. John's Missionary Baptist Church, 917 Onslow St., Durham, NC 27705
• Sort the food donations into bags, last Tuesday of every month, 11am-1pm, at the Walltown Neighborhood Ministries Building, 1307 Knox St, Durham, NC 27705
• Deliver and distribute the food, last Thursday of every month, 11am-1pm, at 1307 Knox St.
• Donate nonperishable food items
The next dates are:
Wednesday October 21, Pick up Food from the Food Bank
Tuesday October 27, Sort the donations
Thursday October 29, Deliver and distribute the food to residents
