Why: *Plant a tree, help Slow Global Warming! * ** ** *The Dates* *Wednesday, February 25th* *Saturday, February 28th* *Wednesday, March 4th* *Saturday, March 7th* ** ** Come help The Nature Conservancy restore the Crowley/Bowling preserve. This will create new habitat for the creatures and plants of the longleaf pine ecosystem. The "Bigger Picture" in this restoration is the connecting of Fort Bragg and the the Game Lands in Hoffman. Crowley/Bowling sits in "The Corridor" which is between these two very large protected areas. This planting will help close this gap and allow wild life to travel back and forth between the two areas thus Strengthing their genetic make-up by increasing their available gene pool. You will get to meet some of the staff and other volunteers of like mind and values. All you will need is a lunch and drink, gloves and a water bottle. We have plenty of trees and special shovels. The saplings are small and easy to plant and hopefully we will have some nice weather. *DIRECTIONS: * ** *From the North* * *Coming South on Hwy 1 or 15/501 You will come into Aberdeen (just south of Southern Pines). Just south of Aberdeen, look for signs for Hwy 15/501 and Hwy 211 turning left off Hwy 1, turn left here and then left again in about 200 yards after you go over a railroad bridge. Follow Hwy 211 several miles south. You will come to Kolcraft (a large building on your right) and the Hoke Co. line. Go straight a short distance farther, Crowley/Bowling will be on your left. A TNC vehicle will be parked at he entrance. ** *From the South* ** Coming North on Hwy 211 from Raeford or Fayetteville you will pass Mc Cain prison on your right, Approximately 4.5 miles further on you will see a TNC vehicle parked on the right at the entrance to Crowley/Bowing. If you see a sign for Moore County, you have gone too far. Please let me know what days you think you might be able to help and also give me your phone number in case something should come up at the last minute. We will meet about 10:00am and work till mid afternoon. If you have any trouble in route please give one of us a call.
