Help the Durham Bulls Help Dogs!
Contact: Meredith Barthelemy, mlb38@duke.edu
Sponsor: The Coalition to Unchain Dogs
Where: The 3rd Base Grill at the Durham Bulls game
Why: The Coalition to Unchain Dogs is an organization, formed in August 2006 and
located in the Triangle area of North Carolina, taking a multi-faceted approach
to improving the lives of dogs and bettering our community by building fences
for chained dogs, educating the community on why chaining is cruel and
dangerous, and advocating for legal restrictions on the practice of chaining.
The Coalition focuses fence-building and educational efforts on neighborhoods
where chained dogs and unwanted litters are major problems and where the
residents generally do not have the financial means to spay and neuter their
dogs or put up a fence. So far, we have built 11 fences and freed 21 chained
dogs and there are close to 30 more on the waiting list!
The Coalition will be running the concessions at the 3rd Base Grill at the
Durham versus Louisville game. Part of the proceeds will be donated to our
fence fund. Come out and support your local baseball team and canine friends!

The Duke Graduate Students Team will fundraise for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society together, with creative events and letter campaigns. Then we will walk as a team at the Light the Night event in September, to show solidarity and that Duke graduate Students are active in the greater community.
This first meeting will be for all people who have registered for the event through the team web page, or who would like to learn more before registering. Together, we will set a fundraising goal for the team, and organize some group fundraising events. I will also hand out materials for individual letter campaigns and explain how to use the fundraising websites that were set up by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
To join the Duke Graduate Students group, go to this page and register: http://teams.lightthenight.org/DukeGraduateStudents
Anyone who wants to help lead the team and become a co-captain should email me at eam29@duke.edu

* Every five minutes, someone in this country is diagnosed with blood cancer: Every ten minutes, someone loses the fight.
* Leukemia causes more deaths than any other cancer among children.
* Lymphomas are the most common blood cancers.
