Register for the DOUGHMAN (http://www.DOUGHMAN.org)!  Durham's innovative contribution to gastronomic-athletics is coming again MAY 23, 2009.  Get four-person teams ready to eat, run, bike, and 'swim' through the beautiful streets of Durham stopping at some of the best restaurants in town.  Blu Seafood, Nosh, Dain's Place, Four Square, and Daisy Cakes will all be sponsoring this year.  Help raise money for the Durham Inner-city Gardeners (DIG) from SEEDS (http://www.seedsnc.org/dig.htm) by participating in this ridiculously fun and exciting race -- DOUGHMAN 2009: Bigger, Batter, Doughier.

Economic regulation...International finance...Keynesian theories...Post-corporatist economic liberalism...Hegemony of neoliberal theory.  If you're curious about how all of these fit together, join us for this discussion with Dr. Maderthaner.  Refreshments will be served.

Join us for this special forum --- you needn't be an expert! The recent collapse of the edifice of international finance has confirmed for many the viewpoint of advocates of economic regulation. The logic of unregulated capitalism seems to render it dysfunctional, putting society's productive potential at risk. An unexpected revival of Keynesian practices and theories signals the crisis of post-corporatist economic liberalism and an end to the hegemony of neoliberal theory. Wolfgang Maderthaner is a leading Austrian historian and Director of the Institute for the History of the Labor Movement in Vienna. A response to his comments will be given by Duke's Professor Bruce Caldwell, Center for the History of Political Economy. Come be part of the interactive audience! For a detailed abstract, please email sec16@duke.edu. This event is sponsored by the Society of Duke Fellows (SDF) with support from GSA, and also by CHOPE.

Tracey Cline, Durham's District Attorney, informed us that Stephen Oates (one of the men accused of murdering Abhijit Mahato, a Duke engineering student) has requested a bond hearing on Monday 5/11/09 at 11:00am. If his motion is granted, his bond will be lowered and it is likely he will be released pending trial. To ensure the safety of our community and in support of one of our own, we are opposed to this.

District Attorney Cline has requested our presence at the court house to demonstrate our vigorous objection to lowering Oates' bond.  The hearing will be at 11:00am in the Durham County Court House, 201 E. Main St, in Superior Court Room #1 (the 5th floor).

Abhijit's family can't be here. If at all possible, your presence can and will make a difference. Please show your support and meet at the courthouse a little before 11:00am on Monday. Thank you.
