I can understand the need to have a good GI physician. When I moved here last year for grad school, I was fortunate to get in to see Dr. Joanne Wilson at the Duke Clinic. She was highly recommended by my former GI physician in Michigan. I sense that it can be difficult to get on a patient list at an institution as respected as Duke Hospital. I was fortunate that my former physican knew Dr. Wilson personally and requested her to see me. If you can do whatever it takes to get seen at the Duke GI Clinic, I would do it. I have been very pleased with the care that Dr. Wilson has given me. She is personable and thorough. I'm a patient who always has lots of questions, and she has always been willing to give the time to answer them. Dr. Wilson does office visits, surgeries, colonoscopies, etc. Good luck! » login to post comments

I second the recommendationSubmitted by crf10 on Mon, 07/30/2007 - 1:25pm.
I second the recommendation of Wendy Davis at Duke GI. She is very sensitive to patient concerns, explains all procedures she needs to do and why, and promptly calls patients after test results come in or to check-in after a procedure. When I saw her I really got the impression that she cares about her patients, which seems all to rare in doctors. » login to post comments

I would highly recommend Dr. Wendy Davis at the Duke GI Clinic. She seems very knowledgable and she's very much on top of her patient care. On more than one occasion she called me less than an hour after having x-rays/ultrasounds to let me know the results of the tests and to plan my future care. In addition, she was also able to use her pull to get me a related appt. in hematology about 5 months earlier than when hematology claimed they had an opening. I'm not sure if she does surgeries, but I know she exams and scope procedures. One of the best doctors I've ever seen. » login to post comments
GIs at DukeSubmitted by hek2 on Mon, 07/30/2007 - 11:43am.
Hi Dr Jane Onken in Duke's GI clinic is great, as well as the nurse practitioner, Audrey Broome. I would caution against Dr H Poleski - I have found him to be very uncompassionate.

GI Doc Recommendation
I would highly recommned Joanne Wilson, M.D. at Duke University Medical center. She is a full professor and has been practicing here in the Duke Community for over 30 years. She is expremely capable and is held in highest regard and esteem by the National GI Community.
