Compiled from the Gradwomen listserv:
a) I have really liked the Shoe Repair (1-2-3 Shoe Repair) in the Saladelia
shopping strip complex by Super Target off 15/501 & MLK...hey have always been
great to me--fairly priced, helpful, quick too. the shoes have always turned
out well, and they will also openly give you opinions on how to make your shoe
repair better if you suggest something they think isn't the optimal solution.
As this was the closest - sandwiched between an Indian Grocery Store and a Thai
restaurant for those wondering where it is - this is the place I tried. I
thought they were good even they didn't actually fix my shoes...rather, they
were honest in explaining that they could fix my shoes but there would be no
point because I would be back again in several months needing the same repair.
Other recommendations included:
b) I went to Ko Shoe Repair (in the parking lot at the corner of Hope Valley Rd
and Woodcroft Parkway; there's also an Ace Hardware store there) and they
did a good job replacing worn down heels. It was the first set of shoe
repairs I'd done so I can't compare them to anywhere else, but they weren't
bad.
c) It's a bit of a drive, but the Man Mur shoe shop in Raleigh is very good at
shoe repair
work. It's on Hillsborough St, across the street from the NC State campus.
(Two recommendations for this place)
d) There are some good repair shops in Chapel Hill, and I've used two of
them (with good results). They're both near 15/501, so easy to get to
from Durham. They are:
Lacock's Shoe Repair
99 S Elliott Rd # 9
Chapel Hill, NC 27514
(in the Whole Foods shopping center)
(919) 942-4896
Shoe Repair
1322 Fordham Blvd # 9
Chapel Hill, NC 27514
(919) 968-1407
(this one is right off 15/501 on your right, just past Boston Market)
