A massive earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale hit South-western China mid-afternoon Monday on May 12. China's Xinhua News Agency reported that as of 7 p.m. Tuesday, southwestern Sichuan Province has reported 12,012 death in Monday's quake, according to the disaster relief center under the State Council. Another 9,404 were buried in debris, 7,841 were missing and 26,206 people were injured, according to the headquarters. More deaths are expected to be detected and confirmed with every minute of the rescue efforts led by Premier Wen Jiabao who flew to the scene shortly after the earthquake. It was the worst natural disaster hitting the region in the last three decades. The damage to the property in the vast region is beyond estimation.
