Where: SEEDS in Durham
Why:
SEEDS' youth program, DIG (Durham Inner-city Gardeners), is a youth-driven market garden in which teenagers raise fruits, vegetables, and flowers right here in downtown Durham and sell them at the Durham Farmer’s Market. Volunteers who work with DIG on Saturday mornings work alongside the youth to assist them in their activities of planting, harvesting, weeding, and tending a diverse array of produce. Other activities may include preparing beds, turning compost and a variety of special projects.
On your volunteer day, come prepared to work hard, get dirty, and have fun with the DIG crew, staff, and other volunteers. Wear closed-toed shoes and be aware that work continues rain or shine, so be prepared for either (bring a rain coat or sunscreen and hat). Please also bring a water bottle. We have bug spray and work gloves, but if you have your own, you're welcome to bring them along. Bees are active in our garden, so if you are allergic, please come prepared.
