Latin Chic at the Library

Date: Friday, February 29, 2008 - 10:00pm - 1:00 am
Contact: http://duke.facebook.com/event.php?eid=8877477962
Sponsor: Mi Gente, Duke University Libraries, DUU
Where: Perkins/Bostock Libraries
Why: The lure of throaty sound waves emanating from the brass of a trumpet, the submission of your taste buds to the sweetness of a Mojito, the conversation between your body and the rhythm of Bossa Nova. This is the essence of Latin Chic.

Mi Gente is working with Duke Libraries in collaboration with DUU to bring you this never-before-seen interpretation of style and design on the evening of Friday, February 29, 2008.

The central theme, LATIN CHIC, is a style based on combining fundamental pan-Latin elements and minimalist contemporary design with flavor and sass. The mood of this formal event will convey the unique diversity of Latin-American culture.

Be ready to be transfixed by:
-Minimalist Latin Design modeled after the Delano Hotel in South Beach
-The smooth vibes of a vintage Caribbean 1950's Jazz Club
-A scintillating splash of Rio's Carnival in the Copacabana VIP/Senior lounge

Performances by:
-Arce's Latin Jazz
-Bio Ritmo
-Stella by Starlight
-SMOOCH
-Holy Samba Drums, Brazilian Samba troupe
-Sabrosura
-Plus an eclectic mix of international beats playing throughout the night...

Each niche of the library will serve a different purpose, dancing or lounging. A different selection of tapas as well as a vast array of Latin American beers and wines will be served in each area.
