Why:

The Nutrition and Dietetics Interest Group will be holding an event in Nutritional Self-Care for Healthcare Professionals.  Our guest who will be speaking on this topic is Franca Alphin (MPH, RD, LDN), who is a staff nutritionist here at Duke.  This event will primarily focus on helping healthcare students understand what their nutritional needs are and how to meet them.  Although this event is geared towards healthcare professionals, anyone is welcome to join.

This information session is designed to help healthcare students understand their own nutritional health and self-care as it pertains to becoming part of the healthcare community.  Examples of specific topics that may be covered: how to eat healthy while in the hospital, how to eat healthy on a budget, the benefits and harms of nutritional supplements, the importance of exercise, and how to be sure that what you are eating is providing you with what you need.
