The federal perspective: Obama administration & Congressional priorities

            Congressman David Price

State-level implications of the economic crisis and challenges for the 2009 legislative session

            State Sen. Floyd McKissick

            Special challenges for local government

Brenda Howerton, Member, Durham County Commission (invited)

Mike Woodard, Member, Durham City Council

What are the hard choices that policymakers and government executives will face in the upcoming year?  What policies are likely to be shelved until revenue streams strengthen, and which have the political support to be implemented even in hard times?  How can we best balance declining revenues and increasing needs for government services?  Does the economic environment actually help to create opportunities for bold policymaking in certain areas?  To what extent do the historic elections of the United States’ first African-American president and North Carolina’s first female governor affect attitudes towards policymaking and government?

Our panelists will speak to these issues, and hold an open Q&A session with attendees to address your policy priorities and areas of concern.
