Religion and Spiritual Life

Are you interested in taking part of a religious organization while on campus? The Religious Life staff are here to help. Religious Life Staff consists of 35 chaplains led by the Dean of the Chapel and Director of Religious Life. There are also a variety of Campus Ministries, representing a number of faiths and traditions. Want to find out more about Campus Ministries? The Duke Chapel website maintains a list of campus ministries that you can join.

The University Service of Worship is held at Duke Chapel each Sunday morning at 11:00; the services are also broadcast on WDNC 620 AM. The Ministers to the University conduct these services with the assistance of the Chapel Music Director, Dr. Rodney Wynkoop, and the Chapel Organists, Dr. Robert Parkins and Dr. David Arcus. The 150-voice Chapel Choir is open for membership to the entire community by audition at the beginning of each semester, and many graduate and professional students are members. Each fall during the first weekend in December, the choir presents three performances of Handel’s Messiah in its entirety. A spring concert is also given.
