A Letter From the GPSC President
Dear Classy Colleagues,
We've had a great year at GPSC, serving as the voice of the graduate and professional student community at Duke and, from what I'm told, hosting the occasional soiree. I hope you've had the chance to take in at least some of it. I wanted use my "farewell address" to thank the members of the GPSC Executive Board who gave their time to make it all possible. I did want to give a special shout out to Chris Rowland, our Communications Coordinator, for working so hard to make the GPSCNews look and be amazing this year. If you see Chris around campus, give him a pat on the back. Don't know what Chris looks like? Yeah, yeah, you do: Click Here. Also, a heartfelt thank you Shannon, Pam, Amol, Alexis, Andrew, Dan, Nick, Chris M., Chelsea, Pan, and Brad for the great work you've each put in putting together great programming all year. A 'hats off' to the representatives to the GPSC General Assembly for taking the time to advocate on behalf of the students from your department or program. There are some really amazing elements of grad/pro student culture here at Duke: thank you to all of you who've worked to preserve and build upon that.
Bill Hunt

A Heartfelt Goodbye
Cherished Colleagues,
My term as GPSC Communications Coordinator has come to a close, and this is my last GPSCNews. It has been an honor and a pleasure informing each of you about the enlightening and entertaining opportunities taking place at our wonderful institution. I hope that you have enjoyed the various attributes of the HTML GPSCNews as well as my blurbs at the beginning of each and every newsletter. I am leaving you in good hands! Fumiko Chino is your new Communications Coordinator, and she is phenomenal! In other words, she's going to "Keep the Party GOING!" I hope that everyone had an outstanding year and as always:
Thanks for ROCKING!!!
Chris Rowland

Join the Duke Cycling Team Sunday, April 21st at the second-annual Ninth Street Derby, a full day of racing on a half-mile rectangle for cyclists of all stripes and types. The Derby unites Durham and Duke by way of a street party that celebrates the spectacle of bicycle racing. Racers will jostle for position as they navigate turns at over 30 mph, and the tightly-bunched pack will turn laps in about 1 minute. Collegiate racers of all ability levels will compete for ACC Conference Championship titles from 8am to noon, as Duke seeks to defend its 2012 conference victory. Runners take center stage for the Derby Dash, a 1-mile footrace, at 12:50. Amateur racers from beginners to professionals will compete throughout the afternoon, with a Kids' Derby for children 5-10 preceding the Pro/Am main event at 5:30. If you are interested in helping out with the days events in return for a free breakfast and a front row seat to the action, please visit our website for more details. Volunteers are needed to marshal the four corners of the racecourse and allow spectators through the course crossings at safe moments.
