About the Community Pantry

GPSC’s Community Pantry (located at the GPSC House) is open to all Duke graduate and professional students. A valid Duke student ID is required for entry and program signup. The Pantry is open on Saturday 12:00-2:00pm for in-person shopping hours and weekly bag pickup (see eligibility requirements)

Fall Hours: Saturdays, 12:00 – 2:00 PM (weekly bag pickup and in-person shopping)

Location: GPSC House, 306 Alexander Ave., Durham NC 27705

In-person Shopping Eligibility Requirements:

  • You have tested negative for COVID-19 per Duke University’s return-to-campus policies (if applicable)
  • You have filled out the Duke SymMon app survey prior to coming to the GPSC House;
  • Your Duke card status is active (can check here: http://dukecard.duke.edu/statuscheck)
  • You have no symptoms of COVID-19
  • You agree to wear a clean mask/face covering
  • You agree to social distance
  • You agree to wash/sanitize your hands upon arrival/entry to the pantry;
  • You agree to scan the QR code upon arrival to the pantry for Duke COVID-19 contact tracing purpose
  • You agree to abide by the capacity limit of one-person/family shopping in the pantry shopping at one time


Community Pantry Inventory

The GPSC Community Pantry is currently stocked with:

  • Canned vegetables and fruits
  • Rice, lentils, and pasta
  • Cereal and oatmeal
  • Baby care including food, diapers, and wipes
  • Personal hygiene products
  • Feminine hygiene products
  • School supplies
  • Household items
  • Gently used professional clothing


Weekly Bag Program

The Community Pantry has a Weekly Bag Program, in which students sign up weekly for a customized grocery bag for contactless pickup or delivery. A valid Duke student netID is required for sign-up.

Bag Survey: Opens Saturdays 2:00pm / Closes Wednesdays 12:00pm

Contactless Pickup & Delivery Hours*:  Saturdays, 4:00-6:00pm (starting August 22, 2020)

a) If in the unanticipated event of contact, you agree to wear a clean mask/face covering;
b) If in the unanticipated event of contact, you agree to social distance 


Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer opportunities:

  • Pickup/ drop-off pantry grocery shopping orders
  • Pack weekly bags
  • Assist weekly bag pickups
  • Assist bag deliveries
  • Special events (e.g., fundraisers)
  • Pantry development projects (e.g., research, digital content)

In-Person Volunteering

a) You are a Duke student, faculty or staff member;
b) You have tested negative for COVID-19 per Duke University’s return-to-campus policies (if applicable);
c) You have filled out the Duke SymMon app survey prior to coming to the GPSC House for your volunteer shift; 
d) Your Duke Card status is active (can check status here: https://dukecard.duke.edu/statuscheck);
e) You have no current symptoms of COVID-19;
f) You agree to wear a clean mask/face covering;
g) You agree to social distance;
h) You agree to wash/sanitize your hands upon entry into the pantry;  
i) You agree to wash/sanitize working surfaces after your shift;
j) You agree to scan the QR code when arriving to the pantry for Duke COVID-19 contact tracing purposes

Donation Opportunities

We are accepting donations of items listed in the inventory above.

How to donate:

  • Drop off items at the Community Pantry (GPSC House) any time in the outside donation bins
  • Donate a gift card to Harris Teeter, Food Lion, Target, Walmart or Amazon
  • Ship items from our Amazon Wish List directly to the pantry.
  • *Bring a monetary donation (cash or check only) to the pantry during our open hours
  • *Make a monetary donation (credit card only) Online

*Currently, monetary donations to the pantry are NOT tax deductible. Check made payable to Duke University. If you would like to drop off a check in-person at the pantry, please email gpscpanty@duke.edu to arrange a date/time. Accepted credit cards for online donations include : American Express, Discover, MasterCard, Visa.
